Teachers finally back for Christmas

After hours of tension, waiting and watching the snow blow across the cleared runway, the Fuchs Foundation teachers have finally flown out of the Antarctic and will now touch down on Friday 21st December at 4.30 pm at Heathrow Terminal 2 only to be whisked away to Portsmouth University to the Human and Allied Physiology Laboratories to have their bodies tested to assess the effect of man hauling and living for 40 days on the ice.

They have completed their science projects on and around the Union Glacier and return with exciting new information about lichens found in places not been recorded before. Their findings and experiences will be used to compile teaching materials available for anyone logging on to www.fuchsfoundation.org and www.spri.cam.ac.uk, the Scott Polar Research Institute, Cambridge.

The expedition celebrates the 50th anniversary of the successful completion of the crossing by the Commonwealth Trans Antarctic Expedition lead by Sir Vivian Fuchs. Teachers TV are filming it for a Spring 2008 series of programmes, currently under the working title of Antarctica: Sub Zero Teachers.

ENDS
ALL TEACHERS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEW ON TOUCH DOWN AT HEATHROW AND THEN AFTER CHRISTMAS
